(In debt a post, again…)
This may be my single favorite scene ever in a feature-length film. If you haven’t seen the Down By Law, essentially what’s going on here is that three losers (John Lurie, Tom Waits, Roberto Benini) are in jail, and go hilariously apeshit. I don’t care to make an essay about it–let alone, start trucking with Adorno and Horkheimer–but I feel sure that around in here somewhere there’s a real insight about when apparently insane behavior is an appropriate and even joyfull response to life.

At some point someone needs to figure out why the youtube clips have trouble with being embedded here… Actually it’s probably because you’re not bothering to do it and I’m too retarded to figure it out…
Anyways, that little revisiting just brightened my day… Yeah, there’s an insight about irrationality and the salve it provides– anyone who’s gone a tad ape-shit can testify to the cathartic joy it brings… Also reminds me of Jarmusch’s “Stranger Than Paradise”… I think I love this movie because it’s made up of little scenes like this, little windows into lives that make no sense but continue to happen anyways… Unfortunately there’s no clip of my favorite scene in the movie but this’ll do:

(Actually I only like the first minute or so but…)
