What makes me feel horrible is that during the first map, I had very little idea as to who was who... I'd heard of many of the empires but couldn't tell you anything about the Assyrians and was waiting for the Babylonians who never arrived... Some were huge swaths of land run by a people I'd never once encountered to memory... I felt on more solid ground with the US map...
